The Myth · ΧΡΟΝΟΣ
Before the first clock, there was a god. The Greeks called him Chronos — Time itself — coiled around the world like a serpent, devouring all he fathered. Gold tarnishes, empires fall; the hour, once spent, never returns.
Mortals could not stop him — so they learned to carry a piece of him. The watch: the only way a man has ever held time in his hand — not a measure of the hour, but a relic of defiance, proof that for one lifetime, you kept pace with a god.
We know where every relic is kept.
There's more behind the curtain
Four gods, four ways in — Hephaestus for the watch, Atlas for the city, Chronos for value, Hermes for the moment.
The Spotlight
Dispatch
A Swiss–Indian trade deal is quietly phasing out the duty on every imported watch. What the glide-path means for what you'll pay — and where to actually buy.
Read the dispatch →Beyond the Hours
Chronos was never alone. The Greeks gave time many hands.
Kairos
ΚΑΙΡΟΣ
The fleeting, perfect moment — the time you seize, not the time you count. Chronos numbers the hours; Kairos chooses the one that matters.
Aion
ΑΙΩΝ
Eternity — the wheel with no beginning and no end, the time of gods, not of mortals. Where Chronos devours, Aion simply turns.
The Horae
ΩΡΑΙ
The Hours themselves, daughters of order — keepers of the seasons, openers of heaven's gates. Every dial made since is their inheritance.
The Movement
Behind every god, a machine — a few hundred parts conspiring to keep the god's own hour.
